EARLY rounds
of the Winter League at Kingarth have produced some remarkable scores
in grim weather conditions. Among the men in form has been scratch player
Graham Bolton who shot his best round of the competition with a five-under-par
63 for 41 stableford points. An eagle two at the ninth, which followed
birdies at the first and seventh, capped an outstanding front nine of
31 shots. He then added an inward half of 32 as he beat par at four
of the remaining nine holes.
Unsurprisingly
Bolton fell victim to the ruthless rule of league organiser Jimmy Burnside
who showed no mercy in cutting his handicap to plus-one! Already there
have been 11 scores of 40 points or better from various players including
Winter League specialists Bobby Speirs and John Kernaghan, the only
two so far who have braved the elements to complete the counting eight
rounds.
Last Saturday's
competition again produced excellent golf, this time from club champion
Donald Standaloft who had three birdies in his level par round of 68
for 39 points playing off a handicap of three. His points tally was
matched by Jim McKirdy (11) with James McAlister (20) in third place
one behind on 38.
The league
continues tomorrow (Saturday) with the usual ballot at the clubhouse
at 8.30am.
THE Bute
Club's committee of management has a meeting tonight (Friday) at St
Blane's Hotel, Kilchattan Bay at 7.30pm while the annual dinner and
presentation of prizes takes place at the same venue tomorrow evening.
