IT
took an eagle two at the eighteenth to put David Cameron into pole position
following the first round of the club championship last Saturday at
Kingarth.
That
brilliant finish to an otherwise steady performance gave the six-handicapper
a two-shot lead over nearest challengers Robert MacDonald and David
Bryden who were both on 72.
Defending
champion Donald Standaloft is lying fifth with a disappointing 77 caused
mainly by a horror four-over-par eight after running into trouble at
the ninth.
The
leading scorers at the half-way stage are: D. Cameron 70, R. H. MacDonald
and D. Bryden 72, J. McKirdy 75, D. Standaloft 77, G. A. Pettigrew and
J. Kernaghan 78, G. Cuthbertson and D. Speirs 80. The 36-hole event
continues tomorrow (Saturday) with the leading eight aggregate scratch
scorers going through to the knock-out stages.
The
next best eight net handicap scorers will qualify for the Cuthbertson
Cup match-play.
David
Bryden took first place in the extra medal competition run in conjunction
with the championship qualifying after his better inward half edged
Robert MacDonald into runner-up spot with both scoring 63. Jim McKirdy
(11) and David Cameron (6) shared third place one shot behind. Club
secretary Frazer Robinson (18) led the second class with a score of
65. Gordon Little (15) was second on 69 while James McAlister (20) was
third with 72.
Weekend
action at Kingarth begins tonight (Friday) when a good turnout is expected
for the Kerrytonlia Cup annual mixed competition. Participants should
be at the clubhouse at 6.30pm.
