A
WHEELBARROW may be required for John Kernaghan to transport his haul
from the club prizegiving this year following his fourth major trophy
win of the season at Kingarth on Saturday. The 13-handicapper was
in outstanding form to add the Lord Kingarth Trophy to the Baillie Cup,
the W. D. McFarlane Memorial Trophy, and the Alex Speirs Memorial Cup
which were won earlier. Birdies at the seventh and eighth set him
up for an excellent outward total of 22 points in the stableford competition
-- despite a "no-score" at the fourth. A steady back nine of 38 for
20 points gave him an overall tally of 42, one ahead of runner-up Leonard
Ferguson (18). Other leading scorers were Chris Spencer (22) and Jim
McKirdy (10) both 40, with Gordon Pettigrew (6) next with 39.
The competition
was the final event of the summer fixtures and the annual Winter League
begins next Saturday with the usual ballot at the clubhouse at 8.30am.
