FORMER gamekeeper
Bobby Gordon was on target for his best round of the season last Saturday
when he shot a 61 to win the July medal second class by a comfortable
five shots. The 79-year-old rolled back the years to produce the leading
net score of the day playing off 21. Club captain Ian McDougall (17)
had to settle for runner-up spot with 66 while Leonard Ferguson (18),
winner of the June medal, was third on 67. There was a three-way tie
in first class with Duncan Speirs (7), David Bryden (9) and George Cuthbertson
(10) all on 66. Speirs took top place with a better inward half. The
competition scratch score was 63.
David Bryden,
on a 394 tally, leads the way in the challenge for the Alex Speirs Memorial
Cup with four counting competitions remaining. He is 10 shots clear
of last year's winner John Kernaghan on 406, with Jim McKirdy next on
408 and George Cuthbertson on 415. The trophy goes to the player with
the six best scores from 12 designated competitions.
The annual
mixed competition for the Hume Ferguson Cup will be held tonight (Friday)
over nine holes at Kingarth. Participants are asked to be at the clubhouse
at 6.30pm.
Kingarth
golfers compete tomorrow (Saturday) in the annual Captain v. Vice-Captain
team match. All members are welcome and should report to the clubhouse
at 8.30am. Members are in team action again next Saturday (July 15)
when they travel to Rothesay for the annual social match between the
two clubs. Those wishing to take part should add their names to the
list at the clubhouse.
