AN in-form David Cameron comfortably cleared last Saturday's stroke-play hurdle in his bid to win the club championship for the first time. A beaten finalist twice, Cameron is now favourite to go one step further after finishing seven shots clear of the field with a 139 aggregate in the qualifying event. The six-handicapper added a one-over-par 69 to his first-round tally of 70 to complete an impressive run of 67-66-70-69 gross scores in his last four competitive outings at Kingarth.

The biggest challenge to him is expected to come from defending champion Donald Standaloft who recovered from a first round 77 to post a solid 69 and edge into second place.

Qualifying scores were: D. Cameron 139 (70, 69), D. Standaloft 146 (77, 69), D. Bryden 146 (72, 74), G. A. Pettigrew 149 (78, 71), R. H. MacDonald 149 (72, 77), D. Speirs 157 (80, 77), J. McKirdy 157 (75, 82), G. Cuthbertson 158 (80, 78).

The line-up for tomorrow's quarter-finals is: Cameron v. Cuthbertson, Pettigrew v. MacDonald, Bryden v. Speirs, Standaloft v. McKirdy.

IN a repeat of last year's outcome Gordon Little (16) and John Kernaghan (12) set the pace in the Cuthbertson Cup with net aggregates of 139 after the stroke-play stage. With only six qualifiers they go straight through to the match-play semi-finals to be played by Saturday, June 17.

Frazer Robinson (18) will meet Bobby Gordon (21) and Alex McIntosh (16) plays Alistair McFarlane (13) in tomorrow's quarter-finals with full difference handicap. Qualifying scores: G. Little 139 (69, 70), J. Kernaghan 139 (66, 73), A. McIntosh 140 (77, 63), F. Robinson 143 (65, 78), R. Gordon 148 (76, 72), A. McFarlane 155 (78, 77).

DAVID CAMERON continued on his winning way in the extra medal run in conjunction with the championship and Cuthbertson Cup qualifying competitions when he led the first class with net 63. The six-handicapper was one shot clear of Gordon Pettigrew (7) 64, with David Bryden (9), Donald Standaloft (4), and Bobby Speirs (12), all on 65. Alex McIntosh (16) produced his best golf of the season for a comfortable win in second class where his 63 was five ahead of runner-up Ian McDougall (17) on 68, with Gordon Little (15) third on 70.

THE Kerrytonlia Cup has been won by Phyllis McKirdy, David Cameron and Bobby Gordon who finished with a 102.5-stroke total in the mixed team event played over nine holes at Kingarth. Jean Cuthbertson, Ian McDougall and John Kernaghan were in second place with 110.5.

QUARTER-FINALISTS in the club championship and Cuthbertson Cup will take priority on the course tomorrow from 8.30am.

KINGARTH golfers play host to Port Bannatyne on Saturday , June 17 in their annual social match. Members wishing to participate should add their names to the notice in the clubhouse.
