AN outward
one-under-par 33 paved the way to double success for David Bryden last
Saturday when he won both the William Barclay Trophy and the August
medal at Kingarth. The trophy competition, for the over-60s, is played
over the first nine holes and his net 28½ was one shot clear of runner-up
Bobby Speirs. The nine-handicapper went on to finish in gross 70 for
net 61 to lead the medal first class by six shots. Duncan Speirs (6)
was runner-up on 67 with Graham Connor (11) third with 70. John Stewart
(23) was the top performer in second class with net 63, one shot clear
of Leonard Ferguson (18) and Bobby Speirs (13) both on 64. The competition
scratch score was 64.
CLUB secretary
Frazer Robinson won the gents stableford competition in the club’s annual
outing to Lochgreen, Troon last week with John Bunyan second and Ian
McDougall third. The ladies event, over the Fullarton course, was won
by Elizabeth Speirs ahead of Beck Reid and Julia Craig. The successful
outing was organised by club captain Ian McDougall with special prizes generously
provided by honorary captain Jimmy Burnside.

GORDON LITTLE
is the man to catch when the third round of the Sir Harry Hope Cup competition
takes place at Kingarth tomorrow (Saturday). The 15-handicapper posted
a net 60 in the second round, a target which will be hard to beat. The
usual ballot takes place at the clubhouse at 8.30am
