JOHN KERNAGHAN is just one step away from victory
in the Winter League at Kingarth and is fully expected to lift the McArthur
Cup after tomorrow's final round. The 11-handicapper, who enjoys a nine-point
lead in the stableford competition, is unlikely to be caught by the
chasing pack. Ian McDougall leads the challenge closely followed by
Bobby Speirs, David Bryden and possibly John Bunyan, but realistically
they are all chasing the runner-up spot. Leading placings with eight
scores counting: J. Kernaghan 315, I. McDougall 306, R. Speirs 305,
D. Bryden 303, G. Little 290, J. Stewart 285, J. McKirdy 282, L. Ferguson
274, R. Gordon 273, F. Robinson and J. McAlister 275. Seven rounds:
J. Bunyan 270. Next weekend Kingarth members face an early start to
the new season with the first round of the Sir Harry Hope Cup on Saturday
(March 22) followed by the Easter Medal on the Monday (March 24).
