CLUB champion
Gordon Pettigrew completed a superb double last Saturday when he added
the prestigious Robertson Medal to the title trophy which he won earlier
in the season. The six-handicapper took the first class Medal Finals
award after edging out Jim McKirdy thanks to a better last six holes
after both finished on net 63. Duncan Speirs (7) was also on 63 but
went out of the running with a poorer back nine. Steady golf paved
the way to victory for Pettigrew with one-over-par 35 to the turn followed
by an inward 34 for gross 69. Gordon Little (15) was also celebrating
a double trophy success on Saturday after winning the Emslie Medal in
second class with net 66 following his recent victory in the Sir Harry
Hope Cup. He secured his latest win by finishing two shots clear of
John Stewart (22) and Leonard Ferguson (18), both on 68. The competition
scratch score was 63.
BOBBY SPEIRS
led the way in the extra medal, also at the weekend, with net 62 playing
off 13. He was seven shots clear of runner-up John Foley (14) on 69
with Bobby Gordon (22) third with 70. The competition scratch score
was 64.
