JIM McKIRDY
was celebrating a return to trophy-winning form last Saturday when he
lifted the McAlister Tankard at Kingarth. The 12-handicapper finished
six up in the bogey competition thanks mainly to a solid first nine
of one-over-par 35. John Stewart (23) produced his best form of the
season with five up but had to settle for runner-up spot while John
Kernaghan (13), Duncan Speirs (6) and Bobby Speirs (13) were all on
four up. The Competition Scratch Score was 63.
There is
silverware at stake again tomorrow (Saturday) when members compete for
the Kingarth Trophy in the annual major stableford competition with
the usual ballot at the clubhouse at 8.30am.
The first
tee will also be reserved from 12 noon until 1.15pm tomorrow to accommodate
a visiting party.
The final
round of the M & M Trophy takes place at Kingarth next Wednesday. In
addition to the usual awards, competitors have a chance to win, among
other prizes, a free four-ball at Machrihanish as the Bute club launches
its Calum’s Cabin fund-raiser.
Play will
begin at 8.00am with the last tee-off time at 7.00pm.
Draw sheets
for the club’s three match-play tournaments are now on display in the
clubhouse and members are urged to have ties completed by the stipulated
dates.
