A TWO-UNDER-PAR
back nine of 32 helped Donald Standaloft to victory in the latest round
of the Winter League at Kingarth on Saturday. After a steady start the
two-handicapper boosted his score with back-to-back birdies at the ninth
and tenth before signing off with a final three at the eighteenth for
a gross 67 and 39 points. Duncan Speirs (7) finished one adrift of the
leader with a 38-points total while Ian McDougall (15) and league-leader
John Kernaghan (10) shared third place with 35 points. After Saturday's
round there is still no change at the top of the table, although Kernaghan's
lead has been cut to nine points with McDougall moving into second place
on 306. Despite his winning performance Standaloft is still three scores
short of getting on the leader board in the stableford competition with
the best eight returns counting. Leading placings: J. Kernaghan 315,
I. McDougall 306, R. Speirs and D. Bryden 303, J. Stewart 280, J. McAlister
and F. Robinson 275, L. Ferguson and R. Gordon 273. Players with seven
scores : J. Bunyan 270 and J. McKirdy 251. The competition, with four
rounds remaining, continues tomorrow (Saturday) with the usual 8.30am
ballot.
