JOHN KERNAGHAN
celebrated his first trophy win of the new season with lemonade last
Saturday after finishing seven up in the bogey competition for the McAlister
Tankard. The 13-handicapper hit top form with a gross 72 to edge David
Bryden into second place on a better inward half. Birdies at the 5th
and 10th set Kernaghan up for his winning score which included an excellent
outward half of 35. Nine-handicapper Bryden also had two birdies --
at the 9th and 10th -- on his way to a gross 69. They finished four
clear of third-placed Graham Leonard (22) on three up, with Phil Matts
(24), Leonard Ferguson (18), Bobby Speirs (12), Robert McKirdy (7),
and Duncan Keith (21), all on two up.
Kernaghan
will be hoping to add to his silverware haul when he defends The Lord
Kingarth Trophy in tomorrow's stableford competition. The usual ballot
takes place at the clubhouse at 8.30am.
The Kingarth
round of the M&M inter-club trophy competition takes place on Sunday
with play from 8.00am. The last tee-off time will be 3.00pm.
